I was absolutely delighted to be awarded an Arts Council DYCP grant to develop my picture book portfolio. My application was based on my desire to diversify my portfolio and expand into picture book illustration.

My application detailed how the fund will allow me to expand my craft from standalone editorial pieces and push my boundaries to become accomplished in a new discipline - picture book illustration - guided by industry experts. I will build a comprehensive portfolio of strong narrative illustrations to present to publishers, showcase at fairs and enter awards. I’ll develop a series for existing characters, e.g Sam Jamwitch, and develop new characters and concepts.

I’m really looking forward to having time and support to move out of my regular practice and challenge myself. I’m excited about getting the opportunity to bring to life all the ideas that have been hidden in the sketchbooks and getting the professional guidance and feedback I need to realise it to my best ability.

I’ll be relfecting on my progress and posting as I go on here and on my Substack. Keep your eyes peeled for updates.
